Three other contests also offered their recitation on Wednesday night.

Each contestant has between 10 to 14 minutes to offer his/her performance.

A panel of arbiters comprised of experts from eight countries including Malaysia, Egypt, Jordan, Morocco, and Indonesia assess the performance of qaris.

One of the features of this year’s edition is that organizers are using modern technologies to offer translation and interpretation of recited verses to the audience at the hall.

The contest is set to wrap up on October 25 when the top winners will be announced.

The 62nd MTHQA was held online in the preliminary stage. The finals is organized in person, after more than two years of hiatus due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

According to officials, 41 individuals from 31 countries are set to participate in the final round in two categories of men and women.

Kuala Lumpur hosted the 61st edition in April 2019 and Iran’s representative Hadi Movahed Amin finished fourth after qaris from Malaysia, Algeria, and Morocco. More than 100 qaris and memorizers from 71 countries participated in the previous edition.
